WHY YOU NEED A WALTER REFINING AND FILTRATION SYSTEM
To put it bluntly, tap water in Las Vegas and Phoenix routinely tests far above the acceptable maximum health and contaminant levels as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency. Water in these cities is also extremely “hard” – containing high concentrations of magnesium and calcium. Hard water can cause: (1) skin dryness, irritation and rashes (eczema), (2) scalp and facial hair flaking (psoriasis), (3) scale buildup in your water pipes, around your faucets and in your dishwasher and water heater, (4) dissolved elements that can be harmful to your health, (5) spots on your glasses and silverware after being washed, (6) reduced efficiency of your dishwasher and washing machine, (7) white residue on your shower glass and door, (8) reduced efficiency of your soaps and cleaning products, and (9) other adverse effects.
Despite what some people think, dissolved solid contaminants in water DO NOT evaporate when the water is boiled – only the water evaporates. Using filtered water for cooking, drinking and cleaning will not only be much more beneficial to your health, it will make your home a much more comfortable place to live.
Nevada Clean Water offers several options of Home Water Filtration Systems, all of which will reduce contaminants and harmful mineral content, making the water in your home healthier and cleaner. All of our systems are professionally installed and have Lifetime Warranties.

Widely considered one of the most effective water filtration methods, Reverse Osmosis (RO) water filter systems create clean, healthy, great-tasting and most importantly, drinkable water. Nevada Clean Water offers a 5-Stage RO Filter to remove harmful contaminants in your home’s water. The first stage is a sediment pre-filter that removes tiny particles such as microplastics and bacteria that may be in your water. Next, two activated carbon filters remove unpleasant chemicals (chlorine and sulfur) making the water taste and smell better. In the fourth stage, a reverse osmosis membrane filter removes dissolved elements like lead, copper, iron, industrial solvents, and other contaminants. Finally, the water passes through a fifth stage post-filter which further purifies the water making it fresh and clear.
Nevada Clean Water also offers a 6th Stage Alkaline Filter as an add-on to its Reverse osmosis Filter System.
The water first goes through the reverse osmosis filter. After that, it passes through a mineral cartridge that enriches the water with beneficial amounts of healthy minerals such as soft calcium, soft magnesium, potassium, iodine, selenium, etc. This process alkalizes the water and raises its pH to be 9.5 and above.
Studies have shown that alkaline water has many health benefits which include:
- Increased Hydration;
- Antioxidants that can prevent cell damages that leads to disease;
- Improved Digestion – Higher pH levels can kill pepsin, an enzyme that breaks down food proteins and is a main cause of acid reflux;
- Less Digestive Issues such as nausea, vomiting and stomach pain;
- Reduced Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar and Cholesterol. A study found that people who drank alkaline water for three to six months had lower measures of these factors; and
- Reduced Joint Pain and Swelling. A 2004 study found that people with gout that added alkaline water to their treatment regimen had less joint pain and swelling than other patients.
A Water Refiner (also known as a Water Softener) is a whole home filtering system that not only removes dangerous and harmful chemicals and contaminants, but also softens the water.
Nevada Clean Water offers a 6-Stage Refiner which incudes 50,000 beads of Resin. After passing through carbon and electrolyte media filters that remove heavy metals, the water is filtered through a layer resin. While passing through the resin layer, the hard ions in the magnesium and calcium are exchanged for soft ions which reside in the resin beads (a process called ionic exchange). The water then passes through layers of KDS, garnets and quarts for further softening and purification.
A separate sodium basin is present to allow the system to clean itself and recharge the resin with soft ions ever 2,200 gallons.
The now “soft” water will result in many benefits, including:
- No more skin dryness, irritation and rashes (eczema);
- No more scalp and facial hair flaking (psoriasis);
- No More limescale buildup in your water pipes, around your faucets and in your dishwasher and water heater;
- Removal of dissolved elements that can be harmful to your health;
- No more spots on your glasses and silverware after being washed;
- Increased efficiency of your dishwasher and washing machine;
- No more white residue on your shower glass and door; and
- Increased efficiency of your soaps and cleaning products.
NOTE: Water Conditioners are not nearly as effective as Water Refiners/Softeners, but they do have some benefits.
A Water Conditioner is a salt-free water filtration system that does not “soften” your homes water; it instead transforms the hardness minerals of magnesium and calcium into a crystallized form. Water conditioners do not offer the same level of softening as a water softener, but they do help reduce scale buildup on your appliances and in your plumbing. This means that laundry will not be as soft or white and bright as with soft water, and of course, in your bathroom, you will still have to deal with an amount of soap scum and buildup.
However, there are some benefits to water conditioners, which include:
- No Sodium Added to Water: Unlike salt-based water softeners, salt-free conditioners do not add sodium to the water. This makes them suitable for individuals on sodium-restricted diets or those concerned about sodium intake in their drinking water.
- Preservation of Mineral Content: Salt-free conditioners do not remove minerals from the water but rather transform the minerals into a crystalline form that prevents scale buildup. This means that the beneficial minerals in the water, such as calcium and magnesium, are retained for consumption. However, it should be noted that water is not a significant source of minerals.
- Environmental Friendliness: Salt-free conditioners do not require the use of salt or chemicals for regeneration, making them more environmentally friendly than salt-based systems.
- Prevention of Scale Buildup: While not as efficient as Water Refiners, Salt-free conditioners can effectively prevent scale buildup on plumbing fixtures, faucets, and appliances by altering the structure of minerals in the water. This helps maintain water flow rates, water pressure, and overall plumbing system efficiency.
- Extended Lifespan of Appliances: Again, while not as efficient as Water Refiners, by preventing scale buildup in plumbing systems and appliances, salt-free conditioners can help extend the lifespan of water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, and other household appliances. This can lead to cost savings on repairs and replacements over time.
Which Option is Best For You?
If you experience dry or itchy skin, dandruff or flaking from your hair or beard, spots on your glassware and/or silverware, or white deposits around your faucets, there is most likely very hard water coming out of your faucets.
The first step is to schedule a Free In-Home Water Purity Test with Nevada Clean Water. We will test the water in your home for hardness, unwanted and unhealthy chemicals and dissolved solids and show you the results immediately.
Then, our technician will explain what softening and filtration systems are available and which would be the best choice for your home.
Frequently Asked Questions
Minerals like calcium and magnesium cause water hardness, and although these minerals are not harmful, and can actually be beneficial when in low concentrations, they can cause your water to become hard.
Hard water can dry out your skin and cause dandruff, cause scale buildup in your pipes and on your faucets, and leave a layer of residue on surfaces with which it comes in contact. The best way to remove hardness from your water is to install a whole home water softener.
To put it bluntly, tap water in Las Vegas routinely tests far above the acceptable maximum health and contaminant levels as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Although some of the contaminants found in Las Vegas water are individually within the guidelines approved by the EPA, long-term exposure to these harmful contaminants can potentially cause long-term health issues including cancer and other diseases.
It is always best to make sure that your water is filtered at the point where it will be used for drinking and/or cooking with a Reverse Osmosis system.
Scale buildup in your water pipes and fixtures is caused by hard minerals like calcium and magnesium.
A Water Refiner/Softener will neutralize these minerals’ hard ions and will, in turn, prevent and remove scale buildup from your pipes.
A Salt-Free Water Conditioning system will also help reduce the scale buildup in you water pipes, but is not as effective as a true Water Refiner/Softener.
Calcium by itself is not a dangerous chemical element. However, calcium with hard ions does cause a multitude of adverse health issues and adversely affects your home’s water pipes.
A Water Softener will not remove the calcium. Rather, it will exchange the calcium’s hard ions for soft ions, making it healthier and better for your water pipes.
Remember that calcium is actually good for humans: Its benefits:
- Bones and Teeth. Calcium helps build and maintain strong bones and teeth, and prevents osteoporosis. It is also part of tooth enamel, which protects teeth from cavities and erosion;
- Muscles and Nerves. Calcium helps muscles move and supports the nervous system;
- Heart. Calcium helps with cardiovascular functions;
- Pregnancy. Calcium supports healthy pregnancy;
- Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). Calcium may help reduce mood swings, bloating, food cravings, and pain associated with PMS.
- General Health. Some studies also suggest that calcium may help protect against cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure, when combined with vitamin D.
A Salt-Based Water Softener uses sodium to remove the hard ions of calcium and magnesium found in your water (a process called ionic exchange). This method will permanently soften the water and prevent many adverse health effects as well as protecting your water pipes.
A Salt-Less Water Conditioner crystalizes the calcium and magnesium molecules by joining them together rather than changing them them. They do not offer the same level of softening as a Water Softener, but they do help reduce scale buildup on your appliances and in your plumbing.
